Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign that inspires students to live drug-free lives and make positive choices for their futures. At LMS, we’re celebrating with fun spirit days to show our commitment to a healthy lifestyle and Viking pride! 💚💛

👢 Oct. 24 – Kick Off Red Ribbon Week: Dress like a cowboy and wear boots
🌟 Oct. 27 – Be a Star, Not a Statistic: Dress like a celebrity
🌺 Oct. 28 – Lei Off Drugs: Wear Hawaiian/tropical attire
🕶️ Oct. 29 – Hide from Bad Choices: Pair a hat with shades
✌️ Oct. 30 – Peace, Love & Viking Pride: Wear your 70s green & gold

***All attire must meet dress code guidelines***

8th grade Automation & Robotics students built Wind Turbines made with two different mechanisms (Bevel Gears & Chain Drives).

The Scholastic book fair truck has arrived! The book fair will be set up next week with a preview day on Friday, October 17th. Students may purchase items from Monday, October 20 though Friday, October 24th!

King Henry visited Mrs. Marsh's 7th grade Science classes as they participated in various Metric Week activities.

This week, Miss Rogers’ art students used acrylic paint on canvas to create fall-themed compositions.

The LMS Book Character Pumpkin contest is in full swing! Students have already started submitting pumpkins and book reports. Featured here are Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pete the Cat, Harry Potter, and Winnie the Pooh! Join the fun and decorate a pumpkin in honor of your favorite character (and earn extra credit in ELA). The final submission date is October 22!

The Latta Middle School Student Council delegates, accompanied by sponsors Sarah Duprel and Cristin Britt, traveled to Waccamaw High School to attend the South Carolina Association of Student Council (SCASC) District 2's "Blast Off With Leadership" Rally! During this rally, students listened to a keynoye speaker from the space program at Coastal Carolina University and met other Student Councils with whom they swapped ideas for school and community projects. Our delegates are excited to blast off the school year with fun, new ideas! The LMS 2025-26 Student Council Delegates include the following: Officers: Raya Adams (8), President Francisco Rodriguez (7), Vice President Auburi Gibson (8), Parliamentarian Honor Williams (8), Historian Jaylyn Sellers (7), Secretary Colt Nealey (6), Treasurer Class Representatives: Ellie Kirk (8) Edeigh Walters (8) Ellis King (7) Zack King (7) Mollie Sarvis (6) Maliah Staten (6)

Mrs. Roberts' social studies classes have been studying Ancient Egypt. They worked hard on creating their sarcophagi. Good job to all!

Mrs. Marsh's 7th grade Science classes have been studying atoms, elements, molecules, and compounds. They created 3D models of various molecules called ball and stick models. They used gumdrops to represent the atoms and toothpicks to represent the chemical bonds. Models were made for hydrogen peroxide, carbon dioxide, methane, ammonia, and carbon monoxide.

METRIC WEEK📏 Students completed a long jump activity where they each jumped as far as they could. Then they measured the distance in feet for each jump. Once we were back inside they converted their measurements to meters. This was great practice since they have been learning proportions in class!

Dear Viking families, Thank you for your cooperation as we tried to make preparations in the event that a tropical disturbance caused issues for our area this week. Thankfully, Imelda turned out to sea and we have not been affected. Students do not need to complete any eLearning assignments. We have look forward to seeing all of our Vikings back at school tomorrow. LES and LMS families...Don't forget to have your child return Chromebooks and chargers. Goosetta the ViQueen Update! 👑 Goosetta, our unofficial mascot, has spent half of September with our amazing 7th graders! 💚💛 She joined in on the fun during Attendance Awareness Week and even stepped up as the referee during break time. 🏈 Now the big question is… Where will she migrate to in October? 🍂✈️

Mrs. Mew's 7th grade math class worked in small groups and pairs to complete a Circumference and Area Scavenger Hunt around the room.

Mrs. Mew's 7th Grade Math Class worked together to measure the circumference and diameter of circular objects. Students then found the proportional relationship between the circumference and diameter to be pi.

The LMS library program is excited to host its first annual Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Students may decorate (NOT carve) a pumpkin to resemble a book character, submit the pumpkin and pumpkin book report to the main office, and earn extra credit in ELA for participating as well as receive a chance to win up to $50.00 cash!

Latta Middle School's FCA hosted See You at the Pole this morning. The leaders shared scripture, words of encouragement, and prayer!

8th Grade Robotics students have been working hard to build their autonomous operating robot. Students had to build and program their robot to operate correctly.
