The LMS Vikings visited the library this week! During their visit, students completed a scavenger hunt to explore the library sections, organization, and procedures.
Throughout the week, as students were leaving, I heard comments like, "I love this library," "I just want to stay here and read," and "I can't wait to check out more books!"
The Vikings are starting off a great year of reading, learning, and literacy!

The next LMS Student Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 25th in the Student Council/Cheer room at LMS. This meeting will go over campaign expectations and should end by 4PM. Please make sure your transportation is on time.

Our 8th grade students were hard at work today in Mrs. Rogers’ Fundamentals of Computing class!
Today’s focus was on improving their typing skills as students practiced accuracy, speed, and proper keyboarding techniques. These skills may seem simple, but strong keyboarding skills are an important part of being successful in today’s digital world!
We are proud to see our Vikings working to strengthen their skills and become more confident, efficient technology users. Keep up the great work, 8th graders!
Seventh grade students reviewed geography concepts through a Jeopardy-style game, working together and having a little friendly competition along the way!

ATTENTION 6TH GRADE GIRLS: Join us for our upcoming Volleyball Kids Camp in September. Payment is due the day of camp. Must be registered by September 4th. See the flyer for more information or contact Coach Jordan or Coach Marsh.
Students in our new Project Lead The Way (PLTW) course - Flight and Space - jumped right into their first hands-on activity! Working with a partner, students used the design process to create and build paper airplane gliders.
After building their prototypes, students put their designs to the test! Each team completed three test flights, measuring how far their glider landed from a target positioned 1.5 meters away.
This activity gave students the opportunity to collaborate, problem-solve, test their ideas, and use data to evaluate their designs - all while having a little fun along the way!
We’re excited to see where this new PLTW course takes our students!
Students in Mrs. Marsh's 7th grade Science classes have already been working hard and cooperating in class. On the first day of school, they completed the MARSHmallow Tower Challenge with spaghetti noodles which is Mrs. Marsh's favorite food. As they learned things about Mrs. Marsh, they also learned that Science involves trial and error. Overall, it was an awesome first day in Science for everyone!
A Student Council interest meeting will be held after school on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 in the LMS Library. The meeting is expected to end at 4PM. Students may be picked up at the front of the middle school. At this meeting, students will receive applications and recommendation forms.

Latta Middle School will operate on a summer schedule of Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., through July 24. The school will be closed on Fridays.

On Tuesday, May 26 Latta Middle School students celebrated the end of a fantastic school year with our Scuba-Themed Field Day... and what an unforgettable day it was! From exciting competitions to creative water activities, students enjoyed a day filled with laughter, teamwork, and school spirit. One of the most special parts of this year's event was the leadership shown by our 8th grade students. They took the lead in organizing and running the field day activities, creating several fun and unique water games that quickly became student favorites. Their creativity, enthusiasm, and willingness to serve others helped make the day a tremendous success. Thank you to everyone who helped make Scuba Field Day such an amazing event - LMS certainly ended the year with a splash!
On Friday, May 22, Latta Middle School proudly celebrated the accomplishments of our students during the 2026 LMS Awards Ceremony. The event was a wonderful opportunity to recognize the hard work, dedication, and success our students have demonstrated throughout the year. Their commitment to excellence continues to make LMS a place of pride and success. We are incredibly proud of each and every student recognized during the ceremony and are grateful for the support of our teachers, staff, and families who encourage and inspire our students each day. As we close another successful school year, we encourage all LMS students to continue striving for greatness, setting high goals, and exceeding expectations in everything they do! Congratulations again to all of our award recipients.
On Wednesday, May 20 and Thursday, May 21 approximately 200 LMS students traveled to SkyZone in Florence for our End-of-the-Year PBIS Celebration trip. To qualify for the trip, students had to maintain fewer than 40 marks on their countdown card, receive no more than 2 minor classroom referrals, and have zero office referrals for the year - a tremendous accomplishment that reflects dedication, determination, and Viking Pride! We are incredibly proud of these students for consistently exceeding expectations and serving as positive leaders at LMS.
Our 2026 LMS Awards Day Programs will be held on Friday, May 22 in the Latta High School gymnasium. We are excited to recognize and celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of our students.
The program schedule is as follows:
6th Grade and 7th Grade Awards Program - 9:00 a.m.
8th Grade Awards Program - 10:15 a.m.
Doors will open at 8:45 a.m. for the first program and at 10:00 a.m. for the second program. Families attending both programs are welcome to remain in the gym between ceremonies. To ensure that all students and families are able to hear each student’s name as awards are presented, the gym doors will be locked during each program to minimize disruptions. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Students receiving awards were given invitations on Tuesday afternoon.
Early Check-Out Procedures
Parents will be able to sign students out after the awards day programs and will have to show an ID to sign the student out on the sign-out sheet. If someone other than a parent is present to sign the student out, that person must be listed as a contact for the student or we will not be able to allow that person to sign them out.
We look forward to celebrating the achievements and successes of so many of our students on Friday and hope you will join us for this special occasion. Thank you for your continued support of LMS!

If you missed the dance showcase last night, you still have an opportunity to attend! The Latta Middle and Latta High School Dance Education students will hold their spring semester dance showcase, All that Jazz, tonight at 6:30PM. The students will perform dances based on the historical development of the American born dance style of jazz dance along with student self-choreographed dances! Admission is $5.00 per guest.
